Essie Davis is an Australian actress, born in 1970 in Hobart, Tasmania. She is famous for her role as Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher\u2019s Murder Mysteries<\/em>, her role in Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2019 season 6 and also for TV series The White Princess<\/em> as Elizabeth Woodville.<\/p>\n

She is the daughter of local artist George Davis. She went to Clarence High School, Rosny College and University of Tasmania. She graduated from National Institute of Dramatic Art, Sydney in 1992.<\/p>\n

She started her career with Bell Shakespeare and cast as Juliet in 1993 production of Romeo and Juliet<\/em>. With this company, she performed in Hamlet<\/em> and Richard III<\/em> in 1993, Macbeth<\/em> and The Taming of the Shrew<\/em> in 1994. She appeared in films for the first time in 1995 in Dad and Dave: On Our Selection<\/em>. Then she did The Matrix Reloaded<\/em>, The Matrix Revolution<\/em>, a Tasmanian film in 1998, The Sound of One Hand Clapping<\/em> and Girl with a Pearl Earring<\/em>. In 2003, she won Laurence Oliver award for Best Supporting Actress at National Theatre in London for her role of Stella Kowalski in the play A Streetcar Named Desire<\/em>. In 2008, she did Australia<\/em>, Hey, Hey It\u2019s Esther Blueburger<\/em> and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof<\/em> for Melbourne Theatre Company.<\/p>\n

She came back to Tasmania and launched Tasmanian Theatre Company in 2008. In 2011, she got a Logie Award Nomination for her role in The Slap<\/em>. Then in 2012, 13 and \u201915 she played Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher\u2019s Murder Mysteries<\/em> and in 2016, she appeared for the role of Lady Crane on season 6 of HBO\u2019s Game of Thrones<\/em>.<\/p>\n
