George Bailey is an Australian middle order right-handed batsman who mainly plays in T20 and one day format. Bailey captained Australia in T20 match against India without playing any international match before it. He also was captain of Australia in the absence of Michael Clarke.
George John Bailey (full name) was born on 7th September, 1982 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He went to Launceston Church Grammar School and studied business at University of Tasmania. He is currently completing his MBA.
George Bailey came at the age of 19 to play with South Launceston Cricket Club as junior cricketer. He is known for his fast batting. He captained Tasmanian team in Sheffield Shield in 2010 and 2011 against Victoria and New South Wales, respectively to win the title. He was signed by Melbourne Stars in 2012 for Big Bash League. Bailey got involved into Channel Nine Controversy in 2012-13.
George Bailey besides playing for the national team, plays for Middlesex, Hampshire and Sussex in English County Cricket, Tasmania and Melbourne in Australia, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants in Indian Premier League. In 2014, Bailey resigned from captaincy of Australian T20 squad.
