Anne Aly is an Australian political scholar and politician representing the electorate of Cowan in the Australian House of Representatives. She is famous for her academic and Counter-Terrorism expertise. She represents the Australian Labor Party. Anne Azza Aly was born in 1967 in Alexandria, Egypt. She came to Australia when she was 2. She graduated as Bachelor of Arts from American University in Cairo with majors in English and minor in acting in 1990. She did her Masters of Education in 1996 and Ph.D. in same in 2008, both from Edith Cowan University. She wrote her Ph.D. thesis on ‘The Fear of Terrorism’.
In 2008, she was awarded Best New Researcher from Edith Cowan University. Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers rewarded her with a Publication Award in 2009 and she was then appointed to Council for Australian Arab Relations at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She founded the People Against Violent Extremism. According to her, this movement has raised over $40,000 for young activists. She has been with Curtin’s University as an associate professor and research and also with Edith Cowan University as an extra professor. Curtin’s University is also leading its movement against terrorism online. Aly comes from a diverse and low financial background. She has been a single mother of two sons. She constantly writes on academic improvements, worked with United Nations to tackle National Security issues and steps for Counter-Terrorism. She was selected as a candidate in 2016 by Australian Labor Party. She won by a slight margin of 0.68. She is the first female Australian federal Parliament Member of Muslim faith.
